It's not a lie if you believe it. The words of George Costanza came to reassure him as he sat in the interview room, sweat nerves tightening his smile. Yes, he knew in his heart he was a good person, even if his mind sometimes wondered. Just believe.
“People do things when they got the screws on ’em, doesn’t mean who they are, what they are.”
The path was easy to find, but hard to keep to. Starting off from village lowlands, it rose through shades of green, brown, tan and ash, bursts of tree and shrubbery pock-marking the slopes, so each turn revealed a new variation of rolling Andean hills.
"Black leather, black leather, smash smash smash!"
It was a simple life. For two months now he lived in the woods and woke each morning feeling awake. He slept in a small two berth tent and made coffee on a gas stove with the sunrise. He fished in the stream where he washed, picked mushrooms and berries, caught some rabbits when lucky enough. His only company was a floppy-eared nine-year hound, Rufus, the rustle of leaves and birdsong.
"How did that make you feel?"
